Rachel Rohrabacher’s wedding takes unexpected turn after Nor’easter forces last-minute change
Rachel Rohrabacher’s long-awaited wedding had the pickleball world buzzing, until the forecast had other plans.
After announcing her engagement to longtime boyfriend Bobby Edwards, the pro was gearing up for a big celebration. But an ultra-rare Nor’easter headed for Maine forced a last-minute change. As the couple shared on Instagram, they pivoted quickly, pulling together a new ceremony in under 24 hours.
“On Wednesday afternoon, we didn’t know if we would even be able to have a wedding anymore. We watched as the tent we had planned on using was taken down right in front of our eyes,” said Rohrabacher via Instagram. “The most ironic part was that we watched it come down on a day with the most beautiful weather you could ever imagine. Bobby and I sat on the beach, feeling devastated.”
As they scrambled for a solution, Rohrabacher reached out to Kevin Dizon Wedding Studios, who also leads the media team for her MLP squad, the Brooklyn Pickleball Team, to see if they could make it to Maine on short notice.
Dizon got the call while in the middle of another wedding. As soon as it wrapped, they packed up, hit the road, and arrived there by 10 a.m. the next morning.
“With that, we decided if we can’t control the weather for our wedding, we can at least control the date,” shared Rohrabacher. “So we planned a wedding with less than 24 hours to do it. We quite literally handpicked the flowers we used from our venue's garden. My parents landed on Thursday morning and we called them to let them know to strap in – we’re getting married in 6 hours. We were going to have the wedding we wanted, right on the coast of Maine, in the beauty before the storm.”
While the plans were shifting, a friend stepped in and secured a backup indoor venue for Saturday, ensuring there was still a place to host the guests who had already flown in for the original date.
“I have more people to thank than I possibly can. We pulled this together off the backs of so many people who love us, and somehow got to have not one, but two incredibly special wedding days because of it,” Rohrabacher concluded. “And that, my friends, is the story of how we got married twice in one week – an anomaly as rare as a Nor’easter hitting Maine in the month of September.”
The whole story feels like it could be lifted straight from a rom-com, proof that sometimes real life outdoes fiction. Honestly, you couldn’t script a better turn of events.
The couple handled the last-minute change in stride, embracing the chaos with joy. The final wedding video captures a beautiful, lighthearted recap of a truly unforgettable day.
Rohrabacher looked stunning, fully glammed up for the occasion. Dressed in classic white, her gown featured a beautifully gathered waist and a chic choker necklace that added an elegant touch. Her voluminous blowout completed the look perfectly. After so often seeing her on court with a ponytail and minimal makeup, this polished, elevated style was a real treat. Effortlessly elegant from start to finish.
Edwards’ jacket also had a fun personal touch. Its lining featured a playful pattern that looked like dogs, adding a bit of personality to his wedding-day look. It’s one detail that definitely leaves you curious about the story behind it.
One especially charming moment from the video came when Edwards carefully adjusted his boutonniere, then covered his eyes so he wouldn’t accidentally see Rohrabacher before she was ready. He honored the classic superstition of not seeing the bride until the altar, making the moment even sweeter.
A few familiar faces from the pro pickleball world were also in attendance for the “second” ceremony, including Jade Kawamoto and Jackie Kawamoto, along with several other friends and peers.
Not many couples can say they’ve celebrated their wedding twice, both during a rare Nor’easter in Maine. It’s truly an unforgettable story. Cheers to the happy couple!
