Thomas Wilson shares adoption story and welcomes new baby girl, Haven

Thomas and Brittany Wilson have quite a story to tell.

Between major health complications that compromised Thomas’ pro pickleball career and the adoption of a baby girl, Holyn, in late 2023, the couple has been rather occupied.

Things are getting even busier now, though, for a very good reason.

The Wilsons recently celebrated the adoption of their second baby girl, Haven Lively, who was born on April 23 at 4 pounds, 5.5 ounces.

After two weeks in the NICU, Thomas and Brittany officially introduced the sisters to each other - and the footage posted on Instagram will make you cry happy tears.

During an interview on the latest episode of the Hannah Johns Podcast, Thomas shared the complicated adoption journey – and it’s a pretty crazy story.

Following Holyn's adoption, Thomas and Brittany prayed for another baby. After debating on whether or not to start the process again, they received a call the very next morning from Holyn’s birth mom asking if they’d like to adopt Holyn’s sister.

They said yes, but the journey was difficult.

“It’s absolute chaos,” said Wilson.

With Holyn, the Wilsons were matched with the birth mom through an adoption agency. But this time, they were able to adopt Haven directly from the family. It was more optimal financially, but the situation was just as complex.

“This time, it’s been a bit easier because it’s made the process less complicated, but the pre-term stuff has been a bit more intense than Holyn, so that has it's own challenges,” explained Thomas. “There’s a lot of drug use, homelessness, domestic violence, and just crazy stuff that I’ve never really been exposed to with unbelievable challenges. Not even having a place to lay your head or have food to eat.”

Wilson provided further details.

“The birth mom was not healthy and in a tough situation. We have so much compassion for them. It’s just hard to watch, and we do everything we possibly can to help. Praying that she’ll be healthy. It makes you thankful for everything you have in life,” he added.

Despite the challenges, the Wilsons are major advocates for adoption.

“The process of adoption is just really difficult. It’s a long process, and it’s hard in a lot of different ways, which is unfortunate because there’s two million people or couples on the waiting list to adopt babies. It just shouldn’t be that way because there’s so many kids that need to be adopted,” he emphasized. “The system is just pretty broken, and now we understand why more kids aren’t adopted because it’s tough. I wish it was easier so more of these precious little children could be saved from some of the insane situations.”

Today, the Wilsons are blessed with two little girls and the joy is simply immeasurable.

“They’re 19 months apart, which is a little bit quicker than we expected. But at the same time, I’m 35 and it’s great to knock it out and have a bunch of kids back-to-back,” said Wilson. “I’m sure two kids is going to be a lot, especially so close together, and with everything else going on, but we’ve got to take it one step at a time.”

So far, family life is so good with Holyn.

“Holyn is the easiest baby to ever exist. She’s so sweet and gentle. She’s just such a happy baby all the time,” he praised. “It’s crazy given the situation and how she is. We’re like 'How is this possible?' She’s just perfect, so healthy, and we hope baby number two is somewhat close to this because we’re certainly spoiled.”

With a toddler and a newborn marking another new adjustment for the Wilsons, we know it’s going to be sweet.
