3 things to watch for on Friday at the MLP Cup

The Edward Jones MLP Cup presented by DoorDash begins Friday with pool play in the Premier bracket at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, TX.

This standalone event—which is separate from the 2025 MLP season where the Columbus Sliders and Las Vegas Night Owls claimed the respective Premier and Challenger titles—will begin with pool play before the top-performing teams advance to a single-elimination bracket, with each squad competing for a share of a $50,000 prize pool.

Here is the order of play, along with a breakdown of the four pools in the Premier level:

Now, let’s get into what to watch for:

  • Several teams will be playing with substitutions this weekend, but two of the more notable ones on Friday are the Texas Ranchers and New Jersey 5s. The Ranchers are having Wyatt Stone replace Christian Alshon for the second time this year, while Mari Humberg will take Anna Leigh Waters’ place on the 5s. Stone will be in action for Texas for the first time since posting a 6-4 record at MLP Salt Lake City back in August. He will play men’s doubles with Eric Oncins and mixed doubles with Kaitlyn Christian. Humberg will take the court for New Jersey after posting a 5-3 record in her appearances at the Mid-Season Tournament, MLP Dallas, and MLP Salt Lake City. She will team up with Meghan Dizon in women’s doubles and Noe Khlif in mixed doubles. It is unknown at this time if either Alshon or Waters will be in action at any point this weekend with Worlds starting on Tuesday.

  • The day’s best matches project to be the final two on Championship Court: the Dallas Flash facing the Texas Ranchers followed the Columbus Sliders taking on the Brooklyn Pickleball Team. The Flash and Ranchers will face off the in the ‘Battle for Texas’ in a rivalry that produced some special moments during the 2025 season, including the Flash’s 22-20 DreamBreaker win back in May. Columbus and Brooklyn also enter Friday’s bout with some history, as they split their last two meetings. Brooklyn triumphed in their most encounter in what was both teams’ final regular season match, but Columbus got the last laugh by capturing the title after a memorable postseason run. Both teams should be at near-full strength on Friday, so expect a highly entertaining battle to close out action on Day 1 in Dallas.

Action from Brookhaven starts at 9:30am CT on Pickleballtv.
