Fahey avenges Hanoi loss, beats Buckner in straight games for women’s singles gold; Waters, Johns triumph in mixed doubles
The final Carvana Championship Sunday of the 2025-2026 PPA Tour season began with the women’s singles and mixed doubles finals, where Kate Fahey, Anna Leigh Waters, and Ben Johns captured gold in their respective events.
Fahey avenged her previous loss to Brooke Buckner from last month’s PPA Tour Asia event in Vietnam with an 11-0, 11-9 victory.
The top seed simply could not miss in the opening game, as she achieved an 11-0 pickle score line on a single side out in just over five minutes on court.
The second game was more competitive as Buckner jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Fahey proved to be too much in the end as she secured the season-ending title and her fourth gold medal of the 2025-2026 campaign.
Fahey was quick to applaud her fellow University of Michigan alumnus Buckner, who made her first final since October of 2025 on Mother’s Day.
“[Buckner] is an incredible role model for me and always has been, from when I played tennis at Michigan to now on the PPA Tou,” she mentioned. “She has three kids at home, so I have no idea how she juggles it. I’m just so proud of her, and she had an amazing week and an amazing season.”
“It means so much,” Fahey continued. “This has been a long season. It’s been a lot of highs and a lot of lows, so I’m just incredibly grateful to be here. I’ve had a lot of my friends on my bench this week, and it just means so much to have that support. It has been an amazing week.”
In the mixed doubles final, Anna Leigh Waters/Ben Johns closed out their campaign with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 victory over Rachel Rohrabacher/Christian Alshon.
Rohrabacher/Alshon took the first game in their pool play matchup on Friday, but Waters/Johns brought a devastatingly high level on Sunday after nearly losing in the semifinals to Anna Bright/Hayden Patriquin.
“We had a tough one in the semis and then played a clean match here today, so I’ll definitely remember this tournament for a while,” Johns said afterwards.
Waters shared a heartfelt message for her mother on her bench.
“I want to say a special thank-you to my mom. She’s my biggest supporter. I wouldn’t be here without her. She helps me on the court, she helps me off the court, and she helps me to be a better person. I look up to her every day.”
Both Waters and Johns will be back in action later in the day in the women’s doubles and men’s double finals. Catch all the action on FOX and Pickleballtv.
