3 things to watch for on Thursday at PPA Las Vegas
The Rate Vegas Cup presented by Holland America continues Thursday with Round of 16 action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for:
- Federico Staksrud and Zane Ford will face off in men’s singles for the second time in five days after also meeting in the Round of 16 at last week’s LT Open. Though Staksrud won in straight games, Ford made headlines afterwards when he posted a video criticizing Staksrud for forgetting to get his paddles tested and delaying the start of the match. Ford will be looking to avenge that loss and capture his first career win over the Argentine in what will be the second match of the day on Carvana Grandstand Court.
- One of the day’s best matches projects to be No. 6 seeds Rachel Rohrabacher/Andrei Daescu taking on No. 11 seeds Jackie Kawamoto/Dekel Bar in mixed doubles. This is a contest with plenty of Major League Pickleball storylines; Rohrabacher, Kawamoto, and Bar are teammates on the Brooklyn Pickleball Team, while Rohrabacher and Daescu were teammates on the Orlando Squeeze during the 2023 season. The ‘Battle of Brooklyn’ will be the fifth match of the day on Showcase Court 1.
- Sticking with the MLP storylines, the LA Mad Drops’ pairing of Catherine Parenteau/Jade Kawamoto will take on the California Black Bears’ pairing of Layne Sleeth/Lina Padegimaite in women’s doubles. Both partnerships went 22-10 during the 2025 MLP season at their respective levels (Premier for LA, Challenger for California), so Thursday’s clash will feature two teams who have plenty of experience playing together. This will be the ninth match of the day on Showcase Court 1.
Live broadcast coverage from Darling Tennis Center begins at 10am PDT on Pickleballtv.
