3 things to watch for on Thursday at PPA Minnesota

Now, let’s get into what to watch for.

  • One of the day’s best matches projects to be No. 6 seed Roscoe Bellamy taking on No. 11 seed Zane Ford in men’s singles. Bellamy owns the head-to-head 3-1, but all four matches between these two have gone to a third game. Another three-game battle is certainly a possibility on Thursday as both players will be looking to use the fast indoor conditions to their advantage. This will be the fourth match of the day on Carvana Grandstand Court.

  • The mixed doubles draw will give fans an old-school matchup between No. 6 seeds Jessie Irvine/Jay Devilliers and No. 23 seeds Lucy Kovalova/Matt Wright. These two teams have actually squared off on nine separate occasions, but their most recent meeting came all the way back in 2022. That contest was a three-game victory for Kovalova/Wright, so Irvine/Devilliers will be looking to avenge that loss—albeit four years later—in the fifth match of the day on Grandstand.

  • In women’s doubles, No. 7 seeds Chao Yi Wang/Brooke Buckner will take on first-time partners and No. 9 seeds Tina Pisnik/Cailyn Campbell. Campbell continues to make impressive strides at just 15 years old and will have a big opportunity to make the final eight alongside Pisnik, who has started the year off on a high note with a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the Masters with Noe Khlif. With Wang/Buckner continuing to establish themselves as a top 8 partnership, this contest should give fans a high-quality display of women’s doubles in the penultimate match on Humana Championship Court.
