3 things to watch for on Tuesday at PPA Newport Beach
Main draw action at the SXY.com Newport Beach Open presented by JOOLA begins Tuesday with early-round action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- Alex Crum will make his 2026 debut in California after missing the last two months while recovering from a surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus. The 34-year-old made headlines with several deep singles runs in 2025 and will be looking to return to top form in his first tournament since November. Crum will compete in men’s singles and men’s doubles alongside Chris Haworth.
- In men’s singles, Luc Pham will be looking to follow up his Round of 16 finish in Mesa with another strong performance in Newport Beach. Pham took down Dylan Frazier and Cason Campbell on that run, and he will kick off his SoCal campaign against No. 17 seed Gabe Tardio, who is playing his first singles match since the Masters in January.
- The mixed doubles draw will feature several first-time partnerships, most notably No. 4 seeds Alix Truong/Christian Alshon, No. 6 seeds Tyra Black/Noe Khlif, and No. 7 seeds Rachel Rohrabacher/Gabe Tardio. These pairings—as well as other every team in the mixed doubles draw—will be in action on Tuesday.
Live broadcast coverage from the Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach will be available on the PBTV app and the Pickleballtv YouTube channel at 8:30am PT, with Humana Championship Court coverage starting at 10am PT.
