3 things to watch for on Tuesday at the PPA Masters

Main draw competition at the Carvana PPA Masters powered by Invited begins Tuesday with early round action in all five pro events.

This week’s event is the first of 2026, so all players will be looking to make a statement with 2,000 ranking points on the line.

Here is Tuesday’s order of play:

Now, let’s get into what to watch for.

  • Will Howells is playing his first tournament as a contracted tour pro and his first PPA Tour event since 2024. He is scheduled for a full day in the spotlight, with a chance to play four matches on Humana Championship Court. If he wins his opening round contest against Christopher Crouch, Howells will then face No. 2 seed Federico Staksrud in what would be a highly entertaining Round of 64 matchup. Later in the day, Howells will team up with Rachel Rohrabacher in mixed doubles and his New Jersey 5s teammate Noe Khlif in men’s doubles. Howells’ performance projects to be one of the biggest storylines to follow this week, as well as throughout the upcoming season.

  • Several players have signed new paddle and apparel deals ahead of the year’s first event. The biggest names that have done so at this point are Anna Leigh Waters and Gabe Tardio. Waters signed a paddle deal with Franklin and an apparel deal with Nike, while Tardio signed a paddle deal with Facolos. You can see the many other player sponsorship changes here, but be on the lookout for more unannounced changes today in Palm Springs.

  • Pablo Tellez withdrew from the men’s singles competition with a knee injury, so Dan Nguyen, who fell in the final round of qualifying on Monday, will take his spot as the No. 32 seed. Nguyen will look to take full advantage of the opportunity when he faces No. 37 seed Ryan Sherry in the first round. Tellez is still expected to compete in mixed doubles alongside Brooke Buckner and men’s doubles with Jack Sock later in the week.
