5 things to watch for on Saturday at MLP Daytona Beach
MLP Daytona Beach continues on Saturday with eight matches across Toray Championship Court and Grandstand Court at Pictona at Holly Hill.
Here is the full slate of matches:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for:
- The New Jersey 5s will be looking to get back to their winning ways after their DreamBreaker loss to the Utah Black Diamonds on Thursday. One thing that will help with that effort is having Meghan Dizon back in the lineup after she missed Thursday’s contest with an illness. New Jersey will face SoCal and Chicago on Saturday.
- The Texas Ranchers will be working with two different lineups on Saturday. For their match against the New York Hustlers, they will have Helena Jansen in the starting lineup in place of Etta Tuionetoa. Jansen will play women’s doubles with Tina Pisnik and mixed doubles with Christian Alshon. Tuionetoa will be back on court for the Ranchers’ clash against the Los Angeles Mad Drops later Saturday afternoon. The team has yet to provide comment on the reason for the lineup switch.
- The Chicago Slice will have Callie Smith back in the lineup after she missed the team’s two matches on Friday. The Slice went 1-1 without her, beating New York in regulation and falling to SoCal in a DreamBreaker. Smith’s return comes at a good time for Chicago, with matches against St. Louis and New Jersey on Saturday’s docket. She and Vivian Glozman will have a chance to play together for the first time since Glozman was traded to Chicago earlier this week.
- In more roster news, 17-year-old Jalina Ingram will get the start for the SoCal Hard Eights with Irina Tereschenko out with a lower body injury. Ingram is 2-0 alongside Blaine Hovenier in mixed doubles so far this season, though Saturday could be a challenge with matches against New Jersey and St. Louis.
- The match of the day has to be the Texas Ranchers versus the Los Angeles Mad Drops. Texas started off their Florida campaign with a shocking defeat to the Carolina Hogs, but they followed that up with a 4-0 sweep of the Utah Black Diamonds. For the Mad Drops, this will be their first time taking the court since their DreamBreaker triumph over St. Louis on Thursday. If this match goes to a DreamBreaker, Los Angeles will once again have the edge.
Action begins at 10am ET on Pickleballtv.
