Banada, Ansboury knock out second-seeded Rohrabacher, Bright
CARY, NC – There was another upset in the Round of 16 at the Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina Open on Thursday.
Fifteenth-seeded Audrey Banada and Sarah Ansboury defeated second-seeded Rachel Rohrabacher and Anna Bright 11-7, 1-11, 12-10.
Banada was in shock over the victory, while Ansboury had been dealing with illness.
“I barely had my voice. I couldn’t speak in mixed doubles the other day. I could barely breathe. It was awful,” said Ansboury.
And yet, the pair still managed to defeat the women's doubles champs from the most recent PPA tournament in Austin.
“I wasn’t even planning on playing today, and I just came back from a bad ankle injury as well. A lot of people, thought I was done, but I’m not,” stated Ansboury with a smile.
