Brooklyn battles past Orlando in inaugural edition of Saturday Night Pickleball
The Brooklyn Pickleball Team (2-2) triumphed in regulation over the Orlando Squeeze (3-1) in the first-ever edition of Saturday Night Pickleball under a picturesque skyline at the USTA National Campus.
Both teams donned special edition jerseys for the event, with Brooklyn going with an all-black fit and the Squeeze going with a citrus orange look.
Brooklyn came out strong and quickly silenced a rowdy Orlando fan base, as Rachel Rohrabacher/Jackie Kawamoto cruised past Lacy Schneemann/Samantha Parker in women’s doubles.

Federico Staksrud/Dylan Frazier then got Orlando on the board, using a late run to defeat Dekel Bar/Riley Newman in men’s doubles to even the match ahead of the mixed doubles bouts.
Newman/Kawamoto opened up mixed doubles competition by earning a 6-0 lead over Parker/Frazier, an advantage they would maintain until eventually sealing the win to put Brooklyn up 2-1.
That left Rohrabacher/Bar to face Schneemann/Staksrud in the day’s final contest on Toray Championship Court.
Both pairings had a lot riding on their performances; Rohrabacher/Bar could close things out and earn their team three standings points with a win, while Schneemann/Staksrud needed a victory to stay alive and force a DreamBreaker.
In the end, it was Brooklyn who got to celebrate after Rohrabacher/Bar’s 11-8 triumph.
This is Brooklyn’s second win of the day after dropping their opening two matches on Thursday and Friday.
Bar sees a bright future ahead for the newly rebranded squad.
“Every match we feel like we’re getting better and meshing more, so I feel like that’s only gonna make us more and more dangerous as the season progresses,” he said.
This result gives the Squeeze their first loss of the season after winning their first three matches.
Both Brooklyn and Orlando will be back in action on Sunday, with Brooklyn set to face the St. Louis Shock and Orlando scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Mad Drops.
