Christian surges into final with victory over My. Brascia

Kaitlyn Christian will go for gold in Central Florida after an 11-9, 11-5 victory over No. 4 seed Mary Brascia in the day’s first women’s singles semifinal.

The encounter—which was a repeat of a pool play match from the PPA Finals earlier this month—featured two contrasting game styles going head-to-head: Christian’s strike-first style reliant on crisp volleys at the kitchen line against Brascia’s counterpunching style reliant on precise passing shots from all areas of the court.

Like she did in San Clemente, Christian prevailed in two games on Thursday.

The No. 2 seed jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening game, but Brascia took advantage of missed game point opportunities and brought it back to 9-10 before Christian closed it out at the fourth time of asking.

She went on to comfortably take Game 2 from there to make her fourth singles final of 2024.

Christian spoke about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude during matches, especially with the busy schedule of the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball.

“I think a lot of us are feeling a little bit tired right now, but I’m just always trying to stay positive with myself and push myself in the right direction,” she explained.

Christian will look to bring that positive mentality with her to the final, where she’ll take on No. 5 seed Dominique Schaefer.
