Dominant Duong marches to men’s singles final

Quang Duong put forth one of the most impressive performances of the year in his men’s singles semifinal match against No. 30 seed Michael Loyd, coming away with an 11-2, 11-2 victory.

It was a clinical performance from the No. 6 seed, who was able to gain the upper hand in rallies behind a deadly serve-and-drive combination.

Even though Duong emerged as the victor, Thursday was an excellent showing for Loyd. He picked up wins over Greg Dow, Claudio Quinones Garcia, Aanik Lohani, and Mota Alhouni en route to making his first PPA semifinal.

With this win, Duong is into his second singles final of the year. Arguably the most improved player on tour in all disciplines since 2023, the 18-year-old gives credit to his father as his support system.

“Everyone has their own safe place to look to when they’re down, so my dad is kind of my safe place whenever I need some help or strategy,” he said.

Duong will take on No. 3 seed Connor Garnett—who beat Federico Staksrud in three games in the earlier semifinal—for the men’s singles crown.
