Ignatowich overcomes Game 1 pickle, upsets Ford in three games
James Ignatowich didn’t even get to serve in the opening game of his Round of 32 men’s singles match against Zane Ford, but he didn’t let getting pickled keep him down.
The No. 46 seed comfortably took the next two games—finding particular success approaching to Ford’s backhand—to knock off the No. 10 seed by a shocking 0-11, 11-1, 11-4 score line.
Even with Ignatowich’s celebratory exclamation of “Come on, Jimmy!” upon securing the win, it was Ford’s post-match meltdown that has everybody talking.
Ford will look to regroup ahead of men’s doubles with Zane Navratil later in the day, while Ignatowich will now prepare for mixed doubles with Tyra Black and men’s with Collin Johns.
