Johns, Tardio battle past Alshon, Daescu for third straight title
Ben Johns/Gabe Tardio continued to assert their dominance on the rest of the field with a 10-12, 12-10, 11-3, 11-2 victory over No. 3 seeds Christian Alshon/Andrei Daescu to claim the men’s doubles crown in Las Vegas.
Alshon/Daescu found success early with Alshon’s lob-volleys and attacks off the bounce at the kitchen line, but Johns/Tardio found their groove with an 9-2 run to take the second game before cruising to wins in Games 3 and 4.

Johns spoke about the adjustments that helped him and Tardio deal with the lobs and attacks on the other side of the net.
“It was important to scoot back sometimes when the ball was floating a little bit and then come back in as soon as we were ready to be offensive again,” he explained. "I feel like we made good adjustments in Game 2 and onwards. I think that’s the most important thing in pickleball: using in-game adjustments. It makes a huge difference.”
Tardio played especially well in the second half of the contest, finding ways to attack off of Johns’ aggressive third shots.
“Ben barely misses drops, so I just tried to take advantage of that and add a little extra pressure,” he mentioned.
Sunday’s win gives Johns/Tardio their third straight title together after also taking gold in Bristol and San Clemente earlier this summer.
In the bronze medal match, No. 2 seeds Federico Staksrud/Hayden Patriquin defeated No. 10 seeds Eric Oncins/Matt Wright by a 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 score line.
