Johnson, Frazier dispatch Daescu, Ignatowich in two games to set rematch of wild 2023 final

JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier took the second men’s doubles semifinal over No. 8 seeds Andrei Daescu and James Ignatowich by an 11-6, 11-4 score line.

Both Daescu and Ignatowich have the combination of great length and hand speed, but the No. 2 seeds expertly picked their spots when attacking and overpowered their opponents in two games.

Despite the comfortable semifinal win, Johnson and Frazier almost didn't make it out of the Round of 16 earlier on Saturday. They narrowly beat No. 16 seeds Quang Duong and CJ Klinger 7-11, 11-3, 11-9 in a match where they trailed late in the third game.

Johnson and Frazier will now face Ben and Collin Johns in a rematch of last year's five-game thriller at Darling Tennis Center.

Frazier is looking forward to having a shot at revenge.

“We’re gonna be looking for a little redemption,” he said. “We had an epic match here last year in the final, but it’s been a minute since we’ve played them, so it’s gonna be fun. We’re gonna talk about our strategy tonight and be ready to go.”

'A minute' is another word for 'almost a year.' Shockingly, Sunday will mark Johnson and Frazier's first bout against the Johns bros since November of 2023.

We'll see what the long-awaited next installment of this rivalry has in store on Sunday.
