Las Vegas continues strong performance in D.C. with win over Atlanta
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Las Vegas Night Owls (Chao Yi (Zoey) Wang, Judit Castillo, Mohaned Alhouni, Anderson Scarpa) are now 4-0 in their first four matches of the MLP season.
Their latest victory came against the Atlanta Bouncers by way of a DreamBreaker. Both teams were undefeated in D.C. going into the match, and the bout certainly lived up to expectations.
The teams split the gender doubles matches, with Wang and Castillo taking the women’s doubles point for Las Vegas and Jaume Martinez Vich and Todd Fought winning men’s doubles for Atlanta.
Fought and Genie Erokhina then decisively took the first mixed doubles match to stay undefeated as a partnership in MLP matches.
The second mixed doubles match was a tightly contested affair, with Castillo and Scarpa having to save a match point on the side of Martinez Vich and Angie Walker before eventually winning 27-25 to force a DreamBreaker.
Castillo and Scarpa carried that success with them into the DreamBreaker, each outscoring their opponents 6-2 as the Night Owls rolled to a 21-8 rout for their third DreamBreaker victory in four matches.
“I think it comes down to the trust we have in each other,” Scarpa said of the team’s success. “With rally scoring, you’re never really out of it. Even if we’re down, we just keep fighting for points and stay mentally tough.”
Las Vegas will conclude its business in the nation’s capital with a match against the Chicago Slice on Saturday at noon ET.
