MLP Trade: Roddy to Bouncers, Querrey to Breakers
Major League Pickleball announced a trade between the Premier level’s Atlanta Bouncers (4-11, 12pts) and the Challenger level’s Bay Area Breakers (3-7, 9pts) on Tuesday afternoon.
Here are the details:
- Atlanta acquires Eric Roddy.
- Bay Area receives Sam Querrey.
Let’s get into how these moves impact each roster.
Atlanta Bouncers: Jaume Martinez Vich, Todd Fought, Eric Roddy, Vivienne David, Victoria Dimuzio, Rachel Rettger
Roddy joins the Bouncers after going 5-15 for Bay Aea through two Challenger events. He and DJ Young struggled to find wins in men’s doubles, posting just a 1-9 record together.
He will most likely be the No. 3 male on Atlanta’s roster behind Martinez Vich and Fought, but with Fought posting just a 6-24 record so far this season, Roddy could be called on to take his starting spot as Atlanta attempts to overtake the Miami Pickleball Club (6-9, 16pts) for the final playoff spot at the Premier level.
The Bouncers will next be in action at the Marathon MLP St. Louis, set to run July 17-20.
Bay Area Breakers: DJ Young, Sam Querrey, Alix Truong, Angie Walker
Querrey will join a Breakers squad that is currently tied with the Florida Smash for last place in the Challenger level standings.
That doesn’t mean as much in Challenger, since all six teams will advance to the postseason. Young and Truong have played well together and are 7-3 so far in mixed doubles, so Querrey will most likely join forces with Angie Walker in mixed.
Bay Area will be in action at this week’s MLP New York, though it’s unlikely that Querrey will join his new team in the Big Apple. According to ESPN Press Room, the former No. 11-ranked player on the ATP Tour is set to be commentating Wimbledon this week at the All England Club.
