Parenteau battles past Stewart for first singles title since 2023
Catherine Parenteau claimed her first PPA singles title in over two years Sunday morning with an 11-4, 12-10 victory over No. 40 seed Katerina Stewart.
Stewart, who took out top seed Kaitlyn Christian in her run from the qualifying rounds, had two chances to force a decider, but Parenteau held strong in the big moments and closed out the contest in straight games.
This result gives Parenteau her first singles title since the 2023 Vulcan Tournament of Champions, where she beat Salome Devidze in the final as part of a Triple Crown performance in Brigham City, UT.
The No. 3 seed spoke afterwards about how much it means to return to the top of the podium in a discipline where she has been challenged in 2025.
“Finishing strong means a lot to me and not giving up, even though I went through a lot of hard times in the past couple of months,” she said. “I’m just really proud to be here competing, being healthy, and playing pickleball for a living. How amazing is that?”
Parenteau will be back in action later on Sunday when she and Tyra Black take on Anna Leigh Waters/Jorja Johnson in the women’s doubles final.
No. 2 seed Lea Jansen will take on No. 18 seed Isabella Dunlap in the bronze medal match.
