Sock: ‘Full circle moment’ playing in Cincinnati

In 2014, Jack Sock finished as a runner-up in men’s doubles alongside Canada’s Vasek Pospisil at the ATP Tour's Western and Southern Open (now known as the Cincinnati Open) played at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Over a decade later, he and fellow former American tennis icon Donald Young are through to the Round of 16 in men’s doubles at the PPA Tour’s Veolia Cincinnati Showcase presented by Six Zero, taking place at the exact same venue.

The two overcame a slow start to defeat No. 13 seeds Connor Garnett/Zane Navratil 11-8, 11-8 in Wednesday’s final match on Humana Championship Court.

“It’s a fun full circle moment here with Donald,” Sock said in the post-match interview. “Obviously, we’ve both played here for tennis, and we’ve known each other for at least 20 years now. We never thought we’d be here playing pickleball, but it’s a blast playing together.”

Both Sock and Young have been competing in professional pickleball since 2024. Though each of them has had more singles success than doubles, Sock is looking to change that going into the final stretch of the 2025 season.

“I actually care a lot more about doubles and mixed than I do singles,” he mentioned. “I want to have really good results out here on the doubles court. I want to be playing on the weekends. I’ve been ‘in the lab,’ as they say, trying to get better at the whole kitchen area.”

Sock/Young will look to continue their doubles success on Thursday when they face No. 3 seeds Christian Alshon/Andrei Daescu with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
