Standings shuffle: Frazier on top in doubles, Haworth rises in men’s singles
DALLAS, TX - With the latest tournament in San Clemente in the rearview mirror, let’s take a look at who’s trending upwards in the latest PPA rankings.
All rankings mentioned are dependent on the number of tour points players have earned over the past 52 weeks.
Men’s Doubles
The biggest news here is Dylan Frazier overtaking Ben Johns as the top-ranked men’s doubles player after he and JW Johnson earned their fifth title of the year together. Johnson is now tied with Johns in the No. 2 slot with 16,100 points, while Frazier holds a 600-point advantage over both of them with 16,700.
Julian Arnold was another standout performer at Life Time Rancho San Clemente, and his run to the semifinals alongside Jack Munro moves him from No. 20 to No. 16.
Finally, Tyson McGuffin moved from No. 7 to No. 5 after he and Dekel Bar picked up their fourth bronze medal of the year together. McGuffin is now ranked in the Top 5 in both men’s singles and men’s doubles.
Men’s Singles
Chris Haworth was another big winner in SoCal, capturing his first PPA title. That accomplishment moves him up from No. 17 to No. 12.
To bring home the title, he took down Ben Johns and Federico Staksrud in consecutive matches. Those two are currently tied for the top spot in the rankings, although Staksrud nearly doubles Johns in terms of points earned in 2024. The Argentine has medaled in singles at every tournament so far this year.
Women’s Doubles
Tina Pisnik and Jessie Irvine had a great week in San Clemente, defeating several top women’s doubles teams en route to a Championship Sunday appearance and a silver medal.
That run moved Pisnik from No. 17 to No. 15 and Irvine from No. 18 to No. 17.
Hurricane Tyra Black and Parris Todd also had a strong showing, falling to Pisnik and Irvine in the semifinals before rebounding with a win in the bronze medal match.
That run brings Black from No. 13 to No. 10 and Todd from No. 20 to No. 19 in the latest rankings.
Women’s Singles
A bronze medal from Judit Castillo moves her from No. 9 to No. 7. In her final match she beat Brooke Buckner, who goes from No. 7 to No. 6 with her semifinal run.
Rachel Rohrabacher made it to the quarterfinals in her first singles tournament since September, a performance that brings her up to the No. 22 slot.
Mixed Doubles
Christian Alshon moves from No. 9 to No. 7 after he and Catherine Parenteau came away with a silver medal last week. That performance also moves Parenteau from No. 8 to No. 7 on the women's side.
The aforementioned Rohrabacher is into the Top Ten after another quarterfinal run with Federico Staksrud, moving from No. 12 to No. 10.
