Todd, Bar upset Johnsons in three games to reach mixed doubles final

No. 6 seeds Parris Todd and Dekel Bar earned a spot in the mixed doubles final on Championship Sunday with an upset special at the Black Desert Resort Red Rock Open on Saturday.

The newly-formed duo defeated No. 1 seeds Jorja Johnson and JW Johnson 11-6, 6-11, 12-10 in a three-game semifinal battle that delighted the fans in attendance.

Todd and Barr will face No. 2 seeds Catherine Parenteau and Christian Alshon for gold

.
"We got some practice in Austin before we came out here, so I feel like that really helped us and our rhythm and our routine, but there's literally no words to say what we can be thinking in those big points like that [in the third game]. It's complete chaos," said Todd. "We're up 9-4, and then it goes 9-9, and then there's some crazy points back and forth."

Parenteau and Alshon, meanwhile, advanced to the final by defeating No. 4 seeds Tyra Hurricane Black and James Ignatowich 11-7, 11-5 in the semis.

Alshon is hoping to finally add a mixed doubles gold to his resume since he hasn't reached the top of the podium with any of his partners to date.

"Sometimes when you want something too bad or you want it too much, your body gets tense and you don't play well," he explained. "You hear it a lot - "The Zone" - that's something you can only get in when you're relaxed, and if you often want to win so bad, you often don't. I think that's why I've lost to Ben and Anna Leigh so many times, just because I've wanted it so bad."

Parenteau and Alshon most recently claimed bronze at the Veolia Cape Coral Open presented by Proton earlier this month.
