Top seeds Staksrud, Patriquin face Daescu, Alshon for gold
The men's doubles final at the Black Desert Resort Red Rock Open will definitely be must-watch TV.
No. 1 seeds Federico Staksrud and Hayden Patriquin will face No. 2 seeds Andrei Daescu and Christian Alshon for gold on Championship Sunday.
Staksrud and Patriquin easily defeated No. 4 seeds JW Johnson and CJ Klinger in straight games 11-5, 11-3 in the semis.
"I love playing with Fede. I think we have the best chemistry on tour," said Patriquin. "We got here extra early. We talked about it. We knew what we wanted to do, and we executed well."
Staksrud and Patriquin most recently claimed silver together at the Masters in January, losing to Ben and Collin Johns in their "final match" together.
Daescu and Alshon, meanwhile, dominated No. 3 seeds Dekel Bar and Dylan Frazier 11-0, 11-1 in the other semifinal in just 24 minutes.
Daescu and Alshon claimed gold together earlier this season in both Tucson and Mesa.
"Andrei and I just came out and we were on fire. We didn't make any mistakes. We're just happy it went that way," said Alshon. "[Federico and Hayden] are one of the best teams in the world. They proved that earlier. But, so are Andrei and I. I'm very confident. We've played them before. We practice with them, so it's basically going to be a practice match."
