Tuionetoa, Schneemann outduel Irvine, Smith in four games for women’s doubles crown

Etta Tuionetoa/Lacy Schneemann captured their first title as a partnership with an 11-2, 11-8, 8-11, 11-2 victory over No. 6 seeds Jessie Irivne/Callie Smith in the women’s doubles final.

The No. 4 seeds were pushed to three games in two of their three matches on Saturday, but they certainly found their best in the final to get the job done in four games.

Schneemann was particularly effective out of the gate, as she demonstrated full confidence playing with the wooden paddle and put her opponents under near-constant pressure at the kitchen line.

“As the weekend has gone on, I’ve gotten more reps and have gotten a little more comfortable with the wooden paddle,” she mentioned. “Today, I felt pretty sharp, especially in the first game. I felt like I was pushing the ball around well and was able to attack some, especially with Etta on my right just protecting anything and everything. I thought we played well today.”

“Obviously we knew that Jessie and Callie are a great team, but Lacy and I just kept it simple: push the ball, make balls, and attack when we could,” Tuionetoa added.

This is Tuionetoa’s first women’s doubles title since the 2023 Red Rock Open, where she won alongside Meghan Dizon; for Schneemann, this is her first since taking women’s doubles with Vivian Glozman at the Australian Pickleball Open back in January.

In the bronze medal match, No. 5 seeds Lea Jansen/Brooke Buckner defeated No. 8 seeds Mary Brascia/Maggie Brascia by an 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 score line to hit the podium in their first tournament together.
