Waters powers past Parenteau in women’s singles, captures Triple Crown No. 35
In a rematch of last year’s final in Southern California, Anna Leigh Waters defeated No. 7 seed Catherine Parenteau 11-6, 11-1 to secure the women’s singles title in the weekend’s final match on Humana Championship Court.
Parenteau came out firing and built a 6-3 lead in the opening game, but it was all Waters from there.
She scored 19 of the match’s final 20 points to once again assert her dominance in singles and claim her 35th Triple Crown on the PPA Tour.
Waters has now Triple Crowned at Life Time Rancho San Clemente five tournaments in a row. She did so twice in 2023 and 2024 (when the venue hosted both the Orange County Cup and the PPA Finals) and now once in 2025.
“I just love it here,” Waters responded when asked about how San Clemente brings out the best in her game. “It reminds me a lot of Delray Beach, where I’m from. I think the food’s amazing. This view is amazing, this facility is amazing, the fans and the crowd are always amazing. I just enjoy myself here, and I feel like that’s why I play my best here. I’m always excited to come back.”
Parenteau also had a wildly successful week, making her first singles final since this very tournament in 2024 to go along with a silver medal in women’s doubles alongside Rachel Rohrabacher.
She was especially impressive in singles, picking up wins over No. 2 seed Kate Fahey and No. 5 seed Brooke Buckner en route to the final.
“I’m really proud of the way I competed this whole week. I had some really good wins,” she mentioned. “Congrats to Anna Leigh. This is why she’s No. 1.”
In the bronze medal match, No. 10 seed Judit Castillo defeated Brooke Buckner by an 11-6, 9-11, 12-10 score line to earn her first PPA medal since also getting bronze at this tournament in 2024.
