Waters withstands late run from Fahey to claim women’s singles gold

Anna Leigh Waters closed out Championship Sunday at the Courts of McKinney facility with an 11-4, 15-13 victory over No. 4 seed Kate Fahey in the women’s singles final.

The top seed seemed to be in full control when she earned match point at 10-3 in the second game, but Fahey came alive and scored eight straight points on her serve to earn a game point at 11-10.

The two continued to battle as the numbers on the scoreboard continued to rise, but Waters eventually closed out the contest at the fourth time of asking after saving a game point herself.

“Kate’s a fighter. I definitely didn’t want to go three with her, and honestly, I’m glad that I wasn’t playing her at the end of a long day because it might have been a different story,” Waters said of the battle in the second game.

The Texas Open is where Waters suffered her only singles loss of 2024, losing to Salome Devidze in the semifinals.

She avenged that loss with a title (to go along with mixed doubles gold) in 2025.

No. 5 seed Lea Jansen will go home with the bronze medal after the aforementioned Devidze withdrew ahead of their match.
