Alex Crum - aka "AC Baby" - releases pickleball hype song inspired by Anna Bright
With all the rap music out there with lyrics referencing athletes like Michael Jordan and Lionel Messi, it was only a matter of time before a pro pickleball player was mentioned in a track.
The rap gods, however, have delivered something extra special for fans of America's fastest-growing sport: an entire song about one of the most dominant women in the game, Anna Bright, which is aptly titled, you guessed it... "Anna Bright."
The song inspired by Bright’s pickleball prowess comes courtesy of player/coach, Alex Crum, who is also a part-time musician known as "AC Baby."
“The pickleball world at large has been starving for an anthem; A universal battle cry to listen to before matches that will ensure steady dinks, ferocious drives, and lightning fast hands,” wrote Crum on Instagram.
While some pickleball songs have been released in recent months, a lot of them fall more into the category of lighthearted or straight-up parody.
Given that Crum takes pickleball especially seriously, though, he wanted to create a song that was bold and powerful.
“I always felt like as the fastest growing sport in the country – pickleball was deserving of a song that wasn’t silly or goofy but loud and proud,” said Crum.
Crum accomplished exactly that.
It’s cool, punchy, upbeat, and feels like the perfect background song for pickleball hype reels. Listen to this before a match and it will probably elevate you from a 3.5 to a 4.0.
One of my favorite lines is: “Hey Anna Breezy, my god you make it look easy. You line up all these picklers and turn them into zucchini.”
JW Johnson even gets a mention: “Got grown-man strength like the Flick Wizard.”
This song is a home run - and Bright is the perfect muse - given her remarkable energy and strong persona.
Every pro brings a different kind of energy to the court. Players like Christian Alshon and Julian Arnold bring emotion and they’re not afraid to get a little loud and rowdy out there. Then there’s someone like Ben Johns, who remains calm, cool, and collected. He seems so unphased that you can hardly tell what he's thinking.
But Bright is a great mix of both. She’s vocal, intense, and incredibly good at what she does. Spectators love her, amateurs want to play like her, and she’s got a hilarious sense of humor, often poking fun at herself on social media.
So the humorous lyrics coupled with the intensity of the music’s tone makes it a great pickleball anthem.
I hope AC Baby continues to be inspired by the pros. I'd love to see what he does with players like Tyson McGuffin or Federico Staksrud.
