At 95, Joyce Jones recognized as oldest female competitive pickleball player

For the second straight year, Joyce Jones of Seattle was recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest female competitive pickleball player on the planet.

Jones continues to enjoy America's fastest-growing sport at 95-and-a-half years young.

"I do have other activities, but I love pickleball," she told King 5 News with a laugh.

Jones' connection to pickleball includes a notable friendship with one of the game's founders, former US congressman, Joel Pritchard. She and her husband knew Pritchard well, even before he helped create pickleball at his Bainbridge Island residence in 1965.

Jones has competed in over 100 pickleball tournaments across the country, and she’s slated to participate in the Huntsman World Senior Games next week in Utah as well.

"I’m kind of proud that I’m still 95 and not only playing in tournaments but winning in tournaments,” said Jones, who attributes her longevity to a clean lifestyle. "I’ve never tried smoking, drinking, drugs — anything that would affect my body."

And she has the medals to show for it.

"From 2 to 100, just keep having fun," she said. "I plan on playing until I’m 100."
