3 things to watch for on Friday at PPA Utah
The Greater Zion Cup at Black Desert Resort continues Friday with quarterfinal action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- In men’s singles, No. 13 seed Zane Ford and No. 9 seed John Lucian Goins will face off for the second straight tournament. They met in the bronze medal match at the Texas Open earlier this month, with Ford winning by an 8-11, 11-5, 11-9 score line to secure his second career PPA Tour medal and first since 2024. Goins will look to reverse that result in what will be the day’s second match on Carvana Grandstand Court.
- In mixed doubles, first-time PPA partners Jessie Irvine/Dekel Bar are into the quarterfinals after an 8-11, 11-6, 11-4 victory over No. 7 seeds Tyra Black/Dylan Frazier on Thursday. The No. 10 seeds will now turn their attention towards their clash with No. 2 seeds Jorja Johnson/JW Johnson, who are looking to make their first final of the 2026 season. This will be the 5th match of the day on Grandstand.
- And finally, the men’s doubles draw will give fans a rematch of this month’s Texas Open quarterfinal pitting Hayden Patriquin/Christian Alshon against Jay Devilliers/Jaume Martinez Vich. Devilliers/Martinez Vich, who are MLP teammates on the Atlanta Bouncers, won that matchup in the Lone Star State 11-6, 12-10, so Patriquin/Alshon will be out for revenge in the day’s final bout on Humana Championship Court.
Live broadcast coverage from Black Desert Resort will be available at 1pm ET on Pickleballtv and be on Fox Sports 1 from 7pm-9pm ET.
