3 things to watch for on Saturday at PPA Worlds
The Jenius Bank Pickleball World Championships continue Saturday with semifinal action in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- In men’s singles, Hunter Johnson and Chris Haworth will face off for the third time this season. Johnson won their most recent meetings in Las Vegas and Cincinnati, but Haworth has yet to drop a game this week and is fresh off a convincing quarterfinal victory over No. 12 seed Dylan Frazier. Johnson, who triumphed in a three-game epic against No. 10 seed Gabe Joseph on Friday, will look to protect his top ranking in what will be the second match of the day on Nature’s Sunshine Championship Court.
- In women’s doubles, Anna Leigh Waters/Anna Bright will be out for revenge in their clash against No. 3 seeds Jorja Johnson/Tyra Black. Johnson/Black handed the top seeds their first loss as a partnership back in August, so Waters/Bright will be looking to turn the tide on Saturday against the Dallas Flash teammates as they pursue their 13th PPA Tour title together.
- And finally, Ben Johns/Gabe Tardio will take on No. 3 seeds Federico Staksrud/Hayden Patriquin in the men’s doubles semifinals for the second tournament in a row. They lead the head-to-head 3-0 and won the most recent encounter in Las Vegas 14-12, 11-7, but Staksrud/Patriquin have been playing better and better as they get used to having Patriquin on the left and Staksrud on the right.
Live broadcast coverage from Brookhaven Country Club begins at 10am CT on Pickleballtv.
