3 things to watch for on Tuesday at PPA Las Vegas
Main draw action at the Rate Vegas Cup presented by Holland America begins Tuesday with early round matches in all five pro events.
Here is the order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for:
- There were three withdrawals from men’s singles competition on Monday: Tyson McGuffin, Pablo Tellez, and Mota Alhouni. All three will be replaced by Lucky Losers from Monday’s qualifying rounds. McGuffin and Tellez are both still expected to play in the doubles events, where McGuffin will team up with Ryan Fu and Tina Pisnik and Tellez will compete alongside Dekel Bar and Chao Yi Wang. Alhouni, on the other hand, has withdrawn from the entire tournament after a quarterfinal run at the LT Open over the weekend. He was scheduled to play men’s doubles with Mohaned Alhouni.
- Ben Johns is back in the singles draw for the first time since the Bristol Open in August, where he fell to Max Freeman in the Round of 32. Now down to the No. 7 seed, Johns will look to secure his first singles title since the Atlanta Slam back in May. He will face either Rio Newcombe or Willy De Vilchez in the Round of 64.
- Finally, the mixed doubles draw has several first-time pairings that will be in action on Tuesday. Those partnerships include No. 6 seeds Rachel Rohrabacher/Andrei Daescu, No. 7 seeds Alix Truong/Federico Staksrud, No. 9 seeds Catherine Parenteau/Eric Oncins, and No. 10 seeds Tina Pisnik/Tyson McGuffin. All four partnerships have the talent to make a deep run in Las Vegas and will kick off their campaigns in the Round of 64.
