3 things to watch for on Wednesday at the Edward Jones MLP Mid-Season Tournament
The Major League Pickleball season continues this week with the Edward Jones MLP Mid-Season Tournament, where all 22 teams—16 Premier and 6 challenger—will be in action across five days at Belknap Park in Grand Rapids, MI.
This event takes place outside the normal scope of the regular season, but there is still a lot on the line this week. There is a $100K total prize purse that will be paid out directly to players on podium-finishing teams, and those same teams will also receive standings points for finishing first (6 points), second (4 points) and third (2 points).
Challenger level action begins on Wednesday, while Premier level competition will start on Thursday. Here’s a look at the brackets.

And here is Wednesday's order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- Two teams comprising of the best players in collegiate pickleball will join the Challenger level competition and face the top seeds in the first round. The College All-Star team—featuring Ellie Douglas (TCU), Zoeya Khan (UT-Austin), Liam Duffin (Utah Tech), and AJ Khawaja (TCU)—will face the Las Vegas Night Owls (12-3, 35pts). Florida Atlanta University, which boasts the No. 2-ranked collegiate pickleball team in the country, will take on the Nashville Chefs (11-4, 30pts). Ava Cavataio, Bella Nelson, Zachary Card, and Zachary Marceau will represent FAU.
- Collin Johns will suit up for the Bay Area Breakers (6-9, 19pts) for the second event in a row with Sam Querrey out commentating Wimbledon. Johns went 8-2 for Bay Area last week at MLP New York, highlighted by an undefeated showing in men’s doubles alongside DJ Young. The Breakers will face the California Black Bears (5-10, 16pts) in the first round.
- The Florida Smash (4-11, 12pts) will switch up their mixed doubles pairings for their first-round clash against the DC Pickleball Team (7-8, 23pts). Paula Rives will team up with Cason Campbell, while Martina Frantova and Travis Rettenmaier will reunite after going 11-8 together for Florida during the 2024 MLP season. It’s unknown if these are long-term changes for the Smash, but it’s worth noting that they lost both mixed doubles games when they played DC last week in The Big Apple.
Grandstand Court action begins at 10:30am ET, while Championship Court matches will start at 11am ET on Pickleballtv.
