Bright and Rohrabacher, Waters and Parenteau set to do battle again for women's doubles gold
The No. 2 seeds advance to Championship Sunday at the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction® Pickleball World Championships. Rachel Rohrabacher and Anna Bright had quite the electrifying battle in the semis against Hurricane Tyra Black and Allyce Jones.
The final score was 6-11, 11-9, 11-7.
“We definitely had to earn it. They played really well. They’re both so scrappy and it was really tough when they’re getting so many balls like that, it just gets in your head,” said Bright.
The match was textbook pro women’s dubs entertainment. But one of the main elements that shook up game one was Jones and Black's continual lobs.
“Their lobs are so good and it’s really tricky because our game is to stay on the line and be aggressive but sometimes you have a step back. So it’s kind of tricky and Jones has gotten really great at them but I think we got better at reading it and shutting it down,” said Bright.
But in game two, 'the girlies' rallied. When asked what they changed up to gain the momentum back in their favor, Rohrabacher had this to say:
“To be honest I came into the match really tired and it took a while to get me going. But once I got going, I think Anna felt that and she felt more confident in me which makes her more confident in herself. Additionally, I started playing the left which I think added a different element to Allyce and Tyra.”
They will face either Anna Leigh Waters/Catherine Parenteau in the final.
In the second women's doubles semifinal, Anna Leigh Waters/Catherine Parenteau defeated Lea Jansen/Tina Pisnik by an 11-4, 11-4 score line.
Jansen/Pisnik were coming off big wins against Mary/Maggie Brascia and Lucy Kovalova/Callie Smith in their previous two rounds, but the top seeds proved to be too much on Saturday night.
This win sets up another clash between the top two seeds for the gold medal.
Bright/Rohrabacher are still the only team to have beaten Waters/Parenteau (a feat they've accomplished twice this year), and they'll be looking to avenge their most recent loss to the pair that came in the finals of the Rate Championships last month in Las Vegas.
