Bright, Rohrabacher surge into women’s doubles final, set rematch with Waters, Parenteau
For the third tournament in a row, Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher will face Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau for the women’s doubles title.
After watching the top seeds defeat Jade and Jackie Kawamoto in the first semifinal, the No. 2 seeds then did their part with a dominant 11-3, 11-0 triumph over Lea Jansen and Lucy Kovalova.
Bright and Rohrabacher—still the only team to have ever beaten Waters and Parenteau—have split their last two meetings against the top-seeded tandem; they beat them for the second time in 2024 in Atlanta before falling last week in Virginia Beach.
Rohrabacher says that making the right adjustments will be key as the ‘Girlies’ pursue their seventh title of the year.
“They adjusted their game plan last time, so it’s time for us to sit down and do the same,” she noted. “We’re gonna have Dekel Bar (Rohrabacher’s MLP teammate on the D.C. Pickleball Team who was on their bench during their Atlanta victory) on our bench again tomorrow, so that’s also a difference-maker.”
The Kawamoto sisters will take on Jansen and Kovalova in the bronze medal match, which will be streamed on the PPA YouTube.
