Duong, Klinger dominate Johns bros in men’s doubles

Quang Duong and CJ Klinger booked their spots in the men’s doubles quarterfinals with an impressive 11-1, 11-6 triumph over Ben and Collin Johns on Thursday afternoon.

The teenage tandem were never really threatened by the No. 2 seeds, as they were able to gain control of rallies on serve by relying on Duong’s dipping third shot drives that Klinger could attack off of.

“Having a partner like Q is great,” Klinger noted. “He hits so many consistent, low drives, which allows me to come in and crash to end points.”

Even though this is just Duong and Klinger’s second tournament together this year, we really shouldn’t be surprised to see that they’ve already secured a result like this.

At the Rate Championships in Las Vegas in October, they came within two points of taking down JW Johnson/Dylan Frazier, another top men’s doubles team.

Duong isn’t letting this win go to his head, however.

“We go into every match expecting to try our best and just wanting to do what we can,” he said. “I try not to think exclusively about winning or losing—I try to take it one point at a time.”

The No. 14 seeds will look to carry this momentum into Friday’s quarterfinals, where they’ll face the winner of the match between Christian Alshon/James Ignatowich and DJ Young/Callan Dawson.
