Flash fight past Shock for mid-season crown as 5s take third
It was the match every Major League Pickleball fan had been waiting for: the Dallas Flash versus the St. Louis Shock.
In other words, an unstoppable force versus an immovable object.
And with the coveted mid-season tournament title on the line, Dallas delivered the goods with a 3-1 victory to remain undefeated in 2025.
After teams split the gender doubles games, the Flash’s mixed doubles pairings of Jorja Johnson/JW Johnson and Tyra Black/Augie Ge brought their best to lead the top seeds to the trophy.
The Shock certainly had their chances, however.
They led early in all three games that they lost: Anna Bright/Kate Fahey led 3-0 in women’s doubles, Bright/Hayden Patriquin led 3-1 in the first mixed doubles game against the Johnsons, and Fahey/Gabe Tardio led 4-0 in the second mixed game before eventually losing 10-12.
Ge says this is a special title for a Dallas squad that was eliminated in the semifinals in Grand Rapids in 2024.
“This is huge for us because last year at this tournament, we were still very much on our journey of maturing and developing as a team,” he noted. “That culminated last year in our season championship, and now this year’s win shows that we’re still going and still growing and developing, so it’s just awesome.
Flash owner Mark Molthan spoke with nothing but pride in his players.
“They take it seriously, the whole team. Everyone is professional,” he said. “They all have a role, and they all do it. We came, and we won. That’s what we do.”
For this win, Dallas will receive six standings points and a $50,000 cash prize.
St. Louis will receive $25,000 and four standings points, while the New Jersey 5s—who beat the Texas Ranchers earlier Sunday afternoon to secure third place—will receive $12,500 and two standings points.
The Shock will surely be out for revenge at next week’s Marathon MLP St. Louis, where they will face Dallas during Saturday Primetime Pickleball.
