Hoag, Scarpa upset Pisnik, Bar to make Round of 16
ST. GEORGE, UT - Cass Hoag and Anderson Scarpa are into the Round of 16 at the Selkirk Red Rock Open after an 11-3, 11-5 victory over No. 5 seeds Tina Pisnik and Dekel Bar.
Scarpa credits the pair’s success to their familiarity with each other’s style of play.
“Cass and I have played several times together now, and we know each other’s games well,” he shared. “Cass played amazing. She was countering well on the backhand, we made our drops, and it just worked out today.”
One important factor in the match—just like in all of Friday’s matches at Little Valley Sports Complex—was the persistent windy conditions.
“It’s always tough in the wind,” Hoag mentioned. “You have to move your feet more, but I thought we adapted well.”
Despite the additional challenge that the wind brought to the match, the No. 31 seeds maintained their success even when the teams switched sides after Game 1 and closed out the match handily in two games.
They’ll next take on either Lina Padegimaite and Zane Navratil or Martina Frantova and Andrei Daescu.
