Mixed doubles propels new-look Hogs to victory over Squeeze

The Carolina Hogs (3-12, 10pts)—playing for the first time with new acquisitions Etta Tuionetoa and Roscoe Bellamy—began their weekend in the Big Apple with a 3-1 victory over the Orlando Squeeze (11-6, 31pts).

After teams split the gender doubles games with Carolina winning women’s doubles and Orlando taking men’s doubles, the Hogs comfortably took both mixed doubles games to secure their second regulation victory of the season.

Carolina has been one of the most active teams in free agency and the trade market in recent weeks, flipping Collin Johns and Brandon French for Roscoe Bellamy and Martin Emmrich during Waiver Period #2 before sending Kaitlyn Christian (and cash) to the Texas Ranchers in exchange for Etta Tuionetoa.

Tuionetoa and Bellamy came up big for the Hogs on Friday, with the former winning both of her games and the latter closing out the match alongside Tammy Emmrich with an 11-6 victory over Orlando’s top mixed doubles pairing of Lacy Schneemann/Federico Staksrud.

“Men’s doubles was just a little bit of a slow start. I’ve been out for a bit with an injury, and so I’m just coming back and still getting the feel of things. Mixed doubles went really well—I was able to move a little more, and things just started working out,” Bellamy said of the performance.

Carolina will be back in action on Saturday with matches against the Columbus Sliders (11-5, 33pts) and the Miami Pickleball Club (7-11, 19pts).
