Todd battles past Jansen for women’s singles gold, announces plans to step away from singles

In 2024, Parris Todd was two points away from taking the women’s singles title in Minnesota but came up just short against Salome Devidze.

Two years later, she left no doubt with an 11-5, 11-5 victory over No. 4 seed Lea Jansen to secure her fourth career women’s singles title on the PPA Tour.

Todd missed last week’s Carvana Masters as part of her suspension for participating in an unsanctioned event in December, but she had a massively successful outing in Minnesota with a gold in singles, a silver in women’s doubles with Tyra Black, and a bronze in mixed doubles with Andrei Daescu.

Despite her clinical performance in singles, Todd said afterwards that this will be her final singles event for the foreseeable future.

“I’m definitely going to take a break from singles for a little bit,” she told Pickleballtv’s Ireland Horvat. “I’m really glad I could finish it off like this. I mean, I couldn’t ask for anything better for a last tournament, but I don’t know. Never say never. I think I’ll be dabbling in the draws maybe later in the year at some of the bigger events, but for now I’m trying to focus on doubles.”

If Todd never competes in another singles draw, she will end her career with 14 career PPA singles medals and four singles titles.

In the bronze medal match, top-seeded Kaitlyn Christian defeated No. 19 seed Kiora Kunimoto by an 11-5, 11-6 score line.
