Top seeds pushed early in Bristol
The pairings of Jorja Johnson/JW Johnson and Anna Bright/Andrei Daescu are through to the mixed doubles Round of 16, but they had to work to get there.
The Johnson siblings, the No. 2 seeds who have hit the podium stand in their last six tournaments together, overcame a 1-5 deficit in the decider against No. 33 seeds Brooke Buckner/James Delgado before coming away with an 11-4, 1-11, 11-9 victory.
Just a few minutes later, No. 4 seeds Bright/Daescu came back after dropping the first game against No. 27 seeds Lauren Stratman/Blaine Hovenier to clinch a 5-11, 11-4, 11-4 triumph.
The No. 4 seeds struck gold together in Austin in 2024 and will be looking to have similar success this week in Tennessee.
The Johnsons will next face No. 18 seeds Allyce Jones/Travis Rettenmaier, while No. 14 seeds Judit Castillo/Riley Newman await Bright/Daescu.
