Waters, Johnson sweep Black, Parenteau for women’s doubles gold in battle of first-time partnerships
Anna Leigh Waters and Jorja Johnson have squared off in 19 different PPA Tour finals, but Sunday marked the first time that the two stars were on the same side of the net in a gold medal match.
The partnership went about as well as it could have, with the top seeds taking down No. 2 seeds Tyra Black/Catherine Parenteau—another first-time pairing—by an 11-3, 11-8, 11-5 score line in the women’s doubles final.
It’s unlikely that fans see this partnership again in 2026 with Waters set to continue playing with Anna Bright, but the 18-year-old says she thoroughly enjoyed getting to compete alongside someone she has had many battles with over the years.
“It was really cool to get to know [Jorja] off the court as well. I feel like we have a lot in common, and I really enjoyed playing with her,” she mentioned. “I felt like we were smiling the whole time and having fun, and that’s what you want in a partner.”
In the bronze medal match, No. 4 seeds Tina Pisnik/Meghan Dizon defeated No. 3 seeds Rachel Rohrabacher/Etta Tuionetoa by an 11-4, 1-11, 12-10 scoreline for their first podium finish as a partnership.
