Roddy loved working in football media: 'It was a crazy job'
There are countless professional pickleball players who absolutely love NFL football.
Eric Roddy is one of them, and his passion for the pigskin runs deep.
The University of Georgia MBA graduate's work history includes serving as a reporter and content creator for the Pro Football Network.
One of his favorite experiences was attending the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville as a credentialed member of the media.
"That year, the big guys were Kyler Murray, Quinnen Williams, and Marquise Brown," recalled Roddy. "I was on the red carpet flagging players down, asking questions, getting videos and sound bites, and then posting them to our Twitter account. I’d also write long-form pieces, too."
It was everything Roddy hoped it would be and more.
And speaking of sound bites, he managed to capture one that actually made headlines.
“Later that night, I went into the draft war room. After a player was drafted, they would come into the press room and we would ask them questions. I asked Quinnen, who was drafted by the New York Jets, if he was excited to sack Tom Brady," mentioned Roddy. "It went viral, so that was a lot of fun.”
Fast forward to the 2:03 mark of the clip below to watch Quinnen's reply.
"The highlight of the whole thing was definitely getting to interview the players, but I also went to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis and got to interview players there," he added. "It was a crazy job. I loved it."
Roddy also worked as the publisher and editor of the Dolphins Report for Scout Media Network, which is now part of the CBS Sports network.
These days, he's a digital manager for Bank of America, but he still keeps a close eye on the NFL by participating in a fantasy football dynasty league.
