3 things to watch for on Thursday at the PPA Masters
The Carvana PPA Masters powered by Invited continues Thursday with Round of 16 action in all five pro events.
Here is the day’s order of play:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- No. 8 seed Gabe Joseph and No. 10 seed John Lucian Goins are set to meet in one of the day’s most intriguing matchups. The two faced off back in August in the final of the Bristol Open, a contest which Goins won 13-11, 9-11, 11-2 to secure his first career PPA title. Joseph will be out for revenge on Wednesday as he tries to follow up his silver medal in Daytona Beach with another Championship Sunday appearance in Palm Springs.
- In mixed doubles, No. 5 seeds Catherine Parenteau/Gabe Tardio will take on No. 17 seeds Allyce Jones/Connor Garnett. Both teams were pushed to three games in the Round of 32, with the first-time pairing of Parenteau/Tardio beating Brooke Buckner/Pablo Tellez and Jones/Garnett moving past Alix Truong/Jonathan Truong with an 11-6, 7-11, 11-9 win. Parenteau/Tardio are still finding their groove as a pairing, so the Utah Black Diamond teammates Jones/Garnett will look to take full advantage with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
- No. 21 seeds Armaan Bhatia/Yuta Funemizu are into the men’s doubles Round of 16 after an 11-8, 11-5 victory over No. 11 seeds Riley Newman/Will MacKinnon on Wednesday. Up next for the rising stars is a clash against No. 5 seeds Eric Oncins/Dylan Frazier, who have established themselves as a top 5 pairing since teaming up midway through the 2025 season. Bhatia/Funemizu will look to pull off the upset and advance to the final 8 in Southern California.
Live broadcast coverage from Mission Hills Country Club begins at 10am PT on Pickleballtv.
