Black, Alshon sweep Bright, Patriquin for first mixed doubles titles
Tyra Black/Christian Alshon took down top seeds Anna Bright/Hayden Patriquin 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 to capture mixed doubles gold in the third match of the day on Humana Championship Court.
Alshon put forth a dominant performance on the left side with Black playing a consistent right, and the No. 2 seeds earned the win as both players earned their first career PPA mixed doubles titles.

Black, who fell in the women’s doubles final earlier in the day, spoke about how much this triumph means to her.
“I’m so grateful for this win. I wanted it to bad,” she said. “I was not feeling great this morning, so I’m happy that Christian took over and did what he did on the court.”
It was reported earlier this week that this would be Black and Alshon’s final tournament together, though Alshon says that it might be difficult to continue with that decision based on Sunday’s result.
“Tyra and I had five tournaments where things just weren’t really clicking,” he mentioned. “We talked about it and decided that this would be our last tournament. We might have to rethink that now, but I think talking about that was actually really big because it allowed us both to play free and without a lot of pressure. I think just talking things through and having the tough conversations is really, really important.”
No. 4 seeds Parris Todd/Andrei Daescu finished with the bronze medal after Catherine Parenteau/Gabe Tardio withdrew ahead of their match.
