Championship Sunday Recap: Fahey takes double gold as Sewing, Schupp, and Martinez Vich earn first career titles
Championship Sunday at the Mojo Energy Pouches Virginia Beach Open brought plenty of storylines, with several players hitting career milestones on the east coast.
Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the day’s biggest moments.
WOMEN’S DOUBLES: Sewing earns first career PPA Tour title as Parenteau cashes in on third straight final
After saving three match points in their semifinal against Mari Humberg and Zoey Weil early Sunday morning, Catherine Parenteau and Sofia Sewing returned to the court for the women’s doubles final.
That match resulted in an 11-8, 11-6 victory for the top seeds over Alix Truong and Layne Sleeth, who were playing in their first final as a partnership.
With Sunday’s triumph, Sewing earns her first career PPA Tour title and Parenteau captures her first women’s doubles title of 2026 after taking silver at recent events in Las Vegas and Chicago with Hurricane Tyra Black.
MIXED DOUBLES: Fahey, Oncins overcome late deficit for gold
First-time partners Kate Fahey and Eric Oncins won an instant classic against No. 4 seeds Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman by an 11-13, 11-4, 11-9 score line.
Fahey and Oncins were down 2-8 in the deciding game, but they ended the match on a 9-1 run to close out a win that gives Fahey her first doubles title on the PPA Tour and Oncins his second career mixed doubles title.
MEN’S DOUBLES: Schupp, Martinez Vich earn first career titles
Jaume Martinez Vich and Elliott Schupp closed out their first tournament together with a memorable moment, as they each earned their first career PPA Tour titles with an 11-4, 4-11, 11-4 win over No. 3 seeds Noe Khlif and Riley Newman in the men’s doubles final.
Sunday was Schupp’s first finals appearance and Martinez Vich’s eleventh, and the elation was evident from both athletes after the winning sequence.
WOMEN’S SINGLES: Fahey stops Jansen Fink’s run for second title of the day
Kate Fahey returned to Humana Championship Court later Sunday afternoon and delivered an 11-1, 11-9 victory over No. 21 seed Helena Jansen Fink, who was playing in her first PPA Tour final after a stunning comeback victory over Sofia Sewing on Saturday.
This result marks the first time in her career that Fahey has won two titles at the same event.
It’s quite the time to earn that achievement, as she is set to celebrate her 30th birthday on Monday.
MEN’S SINGLES: Goins breaks through for third career title
John Lucian Goins closed out the weekend’s action with a dominant 11-5, 11-3 victory over Jaume Martinez Vich in the men’s singles final.
It was a performance that demonstrated just how high Goins’ level had been all week, as he took gold without dropping a game through his six matches.
After falling in the semifinals in both Las Vegas and Chicago over the past two weeks, Goins returned to the top of the podium for his first title since 2025.
The PPA Tour will be back in action next week overseas with the Seng Bank Hong Kong Slam.
