Johns, Tardio cruise past Alshon, Patriquin for men’s doubles gold

Ben Johns/Gabe Tardio kicked off Carvana Championship Sunday in Palm Springs with an 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 victory over No. 3 seeds Christian Alshon/Hayden Patriquin in front of a national audience on CBS.

The top seeds put a bow on what was a dominant run in Southern California, as they captured their tenth title as a partnership without dropping a single game through five matches.

Johns gave some insight into what it took to get the job done in straight games.

“We’ve seen a lot of aggression off the bounce from them, so it was important to be reading the spots and to both be shifting and covering middle when we needed to,” he told Pickleballtv’s Kamryn Blackwood and Matt Manasse. “With it being colder in the morning, the ball was a little slick, so I felt like hitting drives was definitely good. We definitely wanted to do that going into the match to get some free points and get in a little easier off the drop if they came back with pace off of our drives.”

This win gives Johns his fourth consecutive men’s doubles title at Mission Hills Country Club. He won from 2023-2025 with Collin Johns and continued that winning tradition alongside Tardio in 2026.

“I felt super locked in this tournament. I know Gabe certainly was, so we had a lot of good matches. I think we played a really good final here and a lot of good points, so I’m thankful to come away with another W and am looking forward to the next one,” he mentioned.

Despite Sunday’s loss, this week was a massive success for Alshon/Patriquin, as they took silver in their first tournament together since 2024. They should make frequent Championship Sunday appearances in 2026 as their partnership continues.

In the bronze medal match, No. 4 seeds JW Johnson/CJ Klinger defeated No. 2 seeds Federico Staksrud/Andrei Daescu by a 12-10, 11-9 score line.
