6:40pm ET: New Jersey caps opening day by defeating Columbus

The New Jersey 5s earned a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Sliders to begin their campaign in style.

Meghan Dizon and Anna Leigh Waters defeated Parris Todd and Lea Jansen 11-8 in women's doubles to get New Jersey started on a high note.

Then, Will Howells and Zane Navratil bested Andrei Daescu and CJ Klinger 11-9 in men's doubles to give New Jersey a commanding 2-0 advantage.

Columbus rebounded when Todd and Daescu claimed the first mixed doubles matchup 11-6 over Dizon and Navratil.

But, New Jersey closed things out when Waters and Howells downed Jansen and Klinger 11-4 in the second mixed doubles contest to seal the regulation triumph.

4:55pm ET: Oncins shines as Texas defeats Brooklyn in three games

The Texas Ranchers began their 2025 campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Brooklyn Pickleball Team.

Last year’s fourth-place finishers came out on fire and earned a quick 2-0 advantage, thanks to triumphs from Etta Tuionetoa/Tina Pisnik and Christian Alshon/Eric Oncins in gender doubles.

After Rachel Rohrabacher/Dekel Bar got Brooklyn on the board with a win in mixed doubles, the pressure fell to Tina Pisnik and Eric Oncins, the Ranchers’ newest addition.

Texas had acquired Oncins back in March in a trade with the Miami Pickleball Club that saw Texas send Khlif to South Florida in exchange for Oncins.

And when the pressure was on, the rising star delivered.

He and Pisnik defeated Brooklyn’s Jackie Kawamoto/Riley Newman 11-8 to close out Championship Court’s first match of the season.

Oncins was especially impressive in men’s doubles, where he and Alshon dominated Newman and Dekel Bar by an 11-2 score line.

That was an especially important win, since there had been questions about his and Alshon’s chemistry after they had played some tense, highly competitive matches on the PPA Tour in recent months.

Oncins was quick to dispel any rumors of trouble.

“We have really good chemistry,” he affirmed. “We’ve played a lot against each other—he gets loud, I get loud, so we just put that together and get loud as a team.”

It seems like it’s working so far.

They found themselves facing an 0-6 deficit at the side switch, but the MLP veterans went on to end the match on an 11-1 run to give the Hard Eights an early advantage.
