Todd, Rohrabacher take women’s doubles gold as Staksrud surges past Ford for men’s singles crown
Carvana Championship Sunday at the Fasenra Sacramento Open presented by Zimmer Biomet began with the men’s singles and women’s doubles finals, where Federico Staksrud, Parris Todd, and Rachel Rohrabacher triumphed in their respective events.
Staksrud kicked off the day’s action with an 11-4, 11-2 victory over No. 12 seed Zane Ford in the men’s singles gold medal match.
Ford had defeated Gabe Joseph, Hunter Johnson, and Jack Sock to make his first final since 2024, but Staksrud maintained his incredibly high level from earlier in the week to secure his twentieth career singles title on the PPA Tour.
The Argentine applauded his opponent for a strong showing in the California capital.
“I feel like Zane doesn’t get the respect he deserves on the tour. He’s an amazing player, and he’s come a long way with his attitude on the court, his composure, and his game,” he said. “He’s one to look out for, and I had to play my best to take him out.”
Staksrud’s post-match interview with Dave Fleming also provided a refreshing moment of levity about what’s really important outside of the 20x44.
“I just enjoy being out here,” he shared. “It’s honestly a blessing to do what we do, just to wake up and to have something that you love and do it with joy. I think I’m living a dream.”
Shortly thereafter in the women’s doubles final, No. 2 seeds Parris Todd/Rachel Rohrabacher knocked off top seeds Jorja Johnson/Tyra Black by an 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-6 score line.
The contest took a turn for the worse when Black called a medical timeout after Game 1 due to a hamstring injury, but she was able to return to action as Todd/Rohrabacher earned their first title as a partnership with a four-game victory after coming away with silver last month in Newport Beach.
Sunday’s win gives Rohrabacher her first PPA Tour title since 2024.
“I’m really happy to be back with a gold medal,” she said afterwards. “I’ve been working really hard, and it’s been a pleasure to share the court with Parris this week.”
In the bronze medal matches, No. 5 seed Roscoe Bellamy defeated No. 6 seed Jack Sock 11-1, 12-10 in men’s singles, as Tina Pinik/Cailyn Campbell earned bronze in women’s doubles after Meghan Dizon/Catherine Parenteau withdrew ahead of the match.
