Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- In women’s singles, No. 5 seed Brooke Buckner and No. 12 seed Genie Bouchard will face off for the first time since January. Bouchard won that PPA Masters contest in three games, so Buckner will be out for revenge on Thursday as she pursues her third consecutive podium finish in women’s singles. The winner of this match will face either No. 2 seed Kate Fahey or No. 50 seed Isabella Dunlap in the quarterfinals.
- For the first time this year, fans will get to see the ‘Sister Showdown’ in women’s doubles between No. 6 seeds Jackie Kawamoto/Jade Kawamoto and No. 11 seeds Mary Brascia/Maggie Brascia. This matchup happened four times during the 2024 season, with the Kawamotos winning three of those meetings. The Brascias will look to take the first matchup of 2025 and make their second straight quarterfinal appearance in women’s doubles.
- No. 7 seeds Riley Newman/Jay Devilliers and No. 9 seeds Eric Oncins/Matt Wright will face off in what could be one of the day’s most entertaining contests. Newman and Wright have a long history of success, medaling in all 27 tournaments they played together from 2022 to 2023 before ending their partnership. Though they have played together at two events since their initial split (at Tucson and Atlanta of this year), they haven’t actually played against each other since March in Cape Coral. Both of these teams have played well recently, too. Newman/Devilliers took bronze in Bristol, while Oncins/Wright secured a fourth-place finish in Las Vegas. Whoever wins this matchup will certainly have earned their spot in the quarterfinals.
Live broadcast coverage from Lindner Family Tennis Center begins at 10am ET on Pickleballtv.
