3 things to watch for on Tuesday at PPA Texas
Main draw competition at the Veolia Texas Open presented by Proton begins Tuesday with early-round action in all five pro events.
Here is the week’s broadcast schedule:
Now, let’s get into what to watch for.
- In men’s singles, Armaan Bhatia will be looking to follow up his Round of 16 finish in Newport Beach with another deep run in the Lone Star State. He will kick off his campaign against No. 13 seed Marshall Brown, who is playing his first event since Mesa. In that same draw, Matthew Barlow will also return to action for the first time since his run from the qualifying draw to the semifinals in Mesa a few weeks ago. Barlow has since signed a contract with the UPA and joined the Texas Ranchers in Major League Pickleball. He will face No. 29 seed Spartak Rahachou on Tuesday.
- A few big-name players are back in the draw this week after being noticeably absent in Newport Beach: Catherine Parenteau and Dekel Bar. Parenteau will return in women’s singles, mixed doubles with Gabe Tardio, and women’s doubles with Rachel Rohrabacher. She and Tardio will face either Jade Rau/Christopher Crouch or Victoria Nguyen/Etienne Blaskewycz on Tuesday. Bar will return to play mixed doubles with Rohrabacher and men’s doubles with Matt Wright. He and Rohrabacher will face either Rachel Summers/Eric Roddy or Lyn Yuen Choo/Brandon Fritze in the Round of 64.
- Len Yang/Collin Johns are, to no one’s surprise, playing together again after their Cinderella run in Newport Beach that saw them beat No. 3 seeds JW Johnson/CJ Klinger en route to a semifinal finish. The No. 19 seeds will look to stay red-hot in Texas when they face No. 47 seeds Austin White/Daniel Miron.
Action from The Courts at McKinney Pickleball and Tennis Center will begin at 8:30am CT, with matches being streamed via the PPA Firefight Zone broadcast on the PBTV app, the PPA Streamed Courts YouTube, and the Pickleballtv YouTube.
